Infusionsoft started in 2001 developing custom software for small businesses. In 2003, the company began developing a comprehensive web-based CRM solution specifically for small businesses. By the end of 2004, began growing quickly, selling their software to small businesses with 2 – 25 employees. That’s when they realized the huge void in the market being created by SaaS vendors such as Salesforce.com, NetSuite and other SMB CRM vendors; they were serving the “MB” in SMB but nobody was serving the “S.”

Infusion headquarters are located just outside of beautiful (and hot!) Phoenix, Arizona. On May 1, 2006, the company quadrupled their office space by moving into a brand new building to accommodate past growth and continued expansion.

I think that they are off to a great start!

Tactical Execution

Infusionsoft is an impressive little company that is firing on nearly all cylinders. Even though theirs is a small team, they are already looking ahead to important standards like PCI compliance. They provide great telephone support for their product; but fail to see that some customer may prefer to interact via the web. By and large, I would say that these folks have done a great job on a lot of the tougher capabilities not even addressed by most CRM solutions. They just need to go back and fill in some of the gaps!

Technological Foundation

Though still evolving, Infusionsoft has a solid technological foundation. The company makes smart use of open industry standards wherever possible.

Core Capabilities

Though there are a few gaps in basic capabilities, like cloning a contact and some basic Outlook integration, Infusionsoft does a good job of the core contact management capabilities.

Total Relationship Management

This is another area where the company has done a great job on most of the “hard stuff” and just needs to go back and fill in a few gaps. The Infusionsoft marketing support capabilities, affiliate management capabilities and shopping cart capabilities are very good. I would like to see the opportunity management and sales forecasting capabilities beefed up though.

Looking Forward

Infusionsoft is still very much a “work in progress.” But, I mean that in the best possible way. The company has already blended an absolutely unique set of capabilities into a dynamic internet marketing machine. Yes, they might have missed a few things that I think are important. But, I can confidently report that most of those features are already on their to-do list for future releases. These things will get done. And soon!

I remain even more intrigued to watch this little company add powerful new capabilities that most of us haven’t even dreamed of yet!

Finally, I must tell you, that there is one big down side to using Infusionsoft: Your family, friends and colleagues will think you are losing it! You see, you will have an uncontrollable urge to chuckle to yourself all day long. Don’t worry about it! This is a totally natural response to the uncontrollable glee that comes from knowing that you know just exactly what each of your prospects need to become totally delighted customers. And (and this is the best part!) your totally automated drip-marketing system is quietly delivering your marketing message to thousands of hot prospects!
