Founded in 2001 by Robert Godgart, Chief Executive Officer, and Richard Frederick, Chief Operating Officer, Autotask Corporation was started with limited funding and achieved profitability almost immediately. Autotask has since become the pioneer and #1 provider of web-based IT Services Management Software, used by thousands of IT service professionals.

Shortly after forming the company and hiring its first employees, the two entrepreneurs located an ideal setting to grow the company. A large estate on the outskirts of Albany was available, and the company set up shop in the main mansion on the top of a hill overlooking the City of Albany, NY. As the company grew, the mansion was completely filled and the company expanded to other structures on the property grounds.

While Autotask has been optimized for use by IT Service providers and Managed Service Providers (MSPs), it has been adopted by software companies as well as a wide array of Professional Services Organizations including architecture, engineering, construction, government contractor, accounting, advertising, design, marketing, public relations, law firms, manufacturers, resellers and telecom companies. As a result, Autotask Corporation has enjoyed accelerating growth throughout its history. In April, 2004 the TechConnex Awards named Autotask a “Rising Star” for its excellent growth potential. Autotask Corporation achieved a double milestone in May, 2004: landing its 100th customer and receiving $2.5 million in equity investment from FA Technology Ventures. George McNamee, Managing Partner of FA Technology Ventures, stated “We've been observing Autotask's progress for the last two years and are very impressed with the progress they've made. The Company has assembled a strong team, solid technology, built a loyal customer base and has a well thought out business plan that focuses on vertical markets where Autotask can take a leadership role. In September, 2004, Autotask was named one of the “Great Places to Work in the Capital Region” by the Capital District Business Review. In presenting the award, Carolyn Jones, publisher of weekly business newspaper said, “We know that committed people doing challenging work in a great environment make companies great." A survey in November, 2004, revealed some of the other reasons for the company's excellent growth: Autotask users were reporting that they were saving 80% of the time previously required to record and report time-entry and billing functions. Further, they were seeing average increases of 15% in captured billing time.

Other awards were soon to follow. In December, 2004, Autotask, was named a finalist in the Software and Information Industry Association's 20th annual CODiE awards, Best Business Productivity Product or Service category. In March, 2005, Software Development magazine selected Autotask as a “Productivity Winner” in the prestigious Management Tools category during the magazine's 15th Annual Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards.

In April, 2005, Autotask Corporation reported that new business in the first quarter of 2005 was up 170% over the same period in 2004, and that the value of the new business had increased 250% over the same period the previous year.
